Project Motor Racing Tease The Gillet Vertigo And Mosport

February 25, 2025 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

It’s been a little while since new content was revealed for the upcoming racing sim, but now Project Motor Racing tease the Gillet Vertigo and Mosport, formerly know as the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The Gillet Vertigo is a fairly unusual choice of a GT car, with the Belgian company founded by driver Toby Gillet, and producing their first prototype in 1991. Production cars followed a couple of years later, along with racing versions. Named the Vertigo Streiff after French F1 driver Philipe Streiff, the carbon fibre and honeycomb body was fitted with an Alfra Romeo 3.6 litre V6 engine putting out 355hp. A GT3 version raced in Belcar, the FIA GT Championship and at the Spa 24 Hours. Later cars switched to a 4.2 litre Ferrari/Maserati V8, but the Alfa Romeo Busso V6 has always been praised for being one of the best sounding six-cylinder road engines ever produced.

One reason that the Gillet Vertigo might be included in Project Motor Racing is that it was also featured in the GTR 2: FIA GT Racing Game from 2006, and some of that development team are now working on Project Motor Racing. It was also included in Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec back in 2001.

It’s certainly a distinctive car, and one which doesn’t pop up often in sim racing. And the image shared by Project Motor Racing also shows it racing around the first corner at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, with the pits clearly visible on the inside of the circuit.

The second purpose-built track in Canada, the venue opened to the east of Toronto in 1961. It’s 2.459 miles (3.957km) long with 10 turns, including the tight Moss Corner that I can never seem to get right two laps in a row. But it’s still a very enjoyable circuit to drive, with the rolling hills and camber running through turns 1-5, including Clayon and Quebec corners.

Having hosted the F1 Canadian Grand Prix for many years between 1967 and 1977, some of the major events now include IMSA Sports Car, NASCAR Canada, Formula 4 and the Trans Am series. It’s probably most known in sim racing as a circuit available for iRacing and in Grand Prix Legends (as Mosport Interionatl Raceway).
