Trucking sims and classic game preservation are both popular topics, but neither is likely to be helped when Big Rigs: Over The Road Racing returns on April 8th, 2025 on Steam.
Originally released in 2003, the game was slated by critics and has been frequently mentioned as one of the worst video games of all time. The idea is that you drive one of four big rig trucks along five routes, but selecting the fourth route will crash the game. The description challenges you to outrun the law, but there are no police in the game, and your opponent won’t move, meaning that it’s not hard to be the first to deliver your cargo.
There’s no time limit, collision detection, or any loss of speed due to hills, going off of the road, or driving through the void outside the game map. And using arrow keys to steer, you can accelerate indefinitely in reverse, and letting go of either accelerate or brake will instantly stop your truck.
The original development of the game was commissioned by Stellar Stone, who outsourced work to Eastern Europe. It was released by GameMill Publishing and available exclusively in Wal-Mart stores.
As one of the worst games ever made, as noted by GameSport, PC Gamer, Kotaku, Computer and Video Games, Hardcore Gamer, The Guardian, GameRadar+ and more, it’s gained a cult following over the years, which is probably why Margarite Entertainment, who mention that it has a score of 8 on Metacritic.
No price has been announced, but a free ‘You’re Winner’ DLC has already been listed, named for the mispelt announcement when you inevitably complete a route.
