Team Redline Dominate ESL R1 At The Esports World Cup

August 27, 2024 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Kevin Siggy became the ESL R1 Drivers’ Champion and BMW M Team Redline took the Esports World Cup Teams Championship as Team Redline Dominate ESL R1 at the Esports World Cup.

The competition on Rennsport began with the event for individual drivers, and Siggy was able to overcome a record-breaking four wins for team-mate Sebastian Job, who couldn’t get the Finalist Mode victory he needed to claim the overall $25,000 prize. Siggy had struggled earlier on, smashing his head on the steering wheel in frustration, and requiring some medical help before leading a 10-lap race to finish ahead of Max Benecke and Job.

With BMW M Team Redline, BMW M Team Mouz (including Maximilian Benecke), and BMW M Team BS+ Competition with Caique Oliveira, eight out of nine race wins were by BMW M drivers.

In the team competition, things went much more smoothly, with Redline finishing the group stage in first, and then achieving an unbeatable points tally by the end of the fifth race of the finals, claiming victory for Siggy, Job, Luke Bennett and Jeffrey Rietveld.

Redline took the overall $140,000 prize money ahead of Team Vitality, Mouz, William Esports and Porsche Coanda Esports. Interestingly, the three BMW M teams prepared together for the Esports World Cup, including a joint training week.

“We have transferred training methods from the real BMW M Motorsport programme into the virtual world more intensively than ever before for the Esports World Cup. It has paid off. Virtual motorsport has played an important role for us for many years. And it’s fantastic that our teams could reward themselves for their hard work at the Esports World Cup.” Andreas Roos, Head of BMW M Motorsport.

The inaugral Esports World Cup took place in July and August 2024, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with a $60,000,000 prize pool across 21 different games, and involving more than 1,500 individuals and 500 teams. The Rennsport-based ESL R1 sim racing league featured alongside eSports titles including Rocket League, Call of Duty, Apex Legends, DOTA 2 and League of Legends with DOTA boasting the largest $5,000,000 prize pool.
