RaceRoom Releases The BMW M4 GT3 And A New Update

May 24, 2023 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

It’s a good time to be playing the racing sim from KW Studios, as RaceRoom releases the BMW M4 GT3 and a new update to improve the physics for the GT3 class and low speed force feedback.

The 2013 WTCC cars have also had a physics update, and three circuits are brought up to 2023 specs, with Donington, Brands Hatch and Sonoma being modernised.

But the biggest news is that you can now purchase the BMW M4 GT3 for £4.33, joining the previous BMW M6 and BMW Z4 among the 23 cars available to race in the GTR 3 class in the racing sim.

The BMW M4 GT3

BMW introduced the M4 GT3 to race circuits in 2022, using a 3-litre straight six engine delivering up to 590hp, and sending it through an Xtrac six-speed sequential gearbox with an electro-hydraulic clutch.

It’s also a notable car for sim racing fans, as the Fanatec Podium Steering Wheel BMW M4 GT3 was developed to work in both the race car and your sim rig.

It’s also more aerodynamic than the previous car, and features an interesting combination of a rearward weight distribution (roughly 48/52), with high levels of anti-drive and anti-squat meaning the nose of the car will rise when you brake, and the rear end won’t drop down when you accelerate. And the fact that the suspension comes from KW’s Competition department should mean that RaceRoom has access to a lot of data on the four-way adjustable racing dampers and solid piston designs.

The new BMW M4 GT3 in RaceRoom

You can purchase the BMW M4 GT3 via the RaceRoom store with one livery for £4.33, or all of the 19 available for £7.45. It’s also now included in the Premium and GT3 packs. The liveries available are:

  • BMW Motorsport – #1
  • Team WRT – #7
  • Paul Miller Racing – #01
  • Turner Motorsport – #96
  • Team WRT – #46

And you can always pick them up separately for 25p each.

RaceRoom Update Release Notes

  • Client version = 0.9.4.75
  • Client BuildID = 11304184
  • Dedi version = 93.0.1422
  • Dedi BuildID = 11304297
  • New content – BMW M4 GT3 in GTR3 car class
  • GT3 car classes have received physics updates – remember to reset your car setups
  • WTCC 2013 cars have received physics updates – remember to reset your car setups
  • Force Feedback – Introducing dynamic linearity which will allow us to tune the forces on a per-car basis through steering geometry and power steering adjustments. It makes all the cars feel more grounded and solid to drive, particularly at low speed. This update makes the existing FFB Linearity slider obsolete, so slider was removed with the update. The changes will help to get the most out of any type of wheel, however, you may find that some weaker wheels need a slightly higher ‘Minimum Force’ setting with the removal of the linearity setting. Users who were running above 85% linearity before shouldn’t have to change anything. However when used to 80% and lower, it is recommended to up the minimum force by 1% or 2%.
  • Brands Hatch – updated to 2023 specs
  • Donington – Updated to 2023 specs
  • Sonoma – Updated to 2023 specs
  • Dedicated Server – Added a LiveUpdate feature. The setting takes a value in second and defines how often the dedicated server will update ..\Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Dedicated\UserData\Log_Dedicated\Results\Live.txt with everything happening in real time on the server. Information is provided in json format.
  • Game client – Adjusted the formatting of results files being written inside ..\Documents\My Games\SimBin\RaceRoom Racing Experience\UserData\Log\Results\ – Changed file data and time prefix to be the same for any session of the same event, making it easier to match sessions together. Modified to use userID’s instead of strings where applicable. Added LiveryID

It’ll be interesting to compare the RaceRoom version of the BMW M4 GT3, especially considering the relationship between KW suspension and KW Studios, with the version given an early release in iRacing.

You can download Raceroom Racing Experience on the PC for free via Steam. Some additional content is available via Steam, but everything can be purchased via the official game store.
