F1 22 Launch Day Driver Ratings Revealed

June 27, 2022 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Last updated on July 6th, 2022 at 01:22 pm

Transforming any human traits into a series of numbers will always cause a few issues and complaints. And that’s bound to be the case with the new F1 22 Launch Day Driver Ratings revealed by Codemasters and Electronic Arts.

With the game being released on July 1st, 2022, the ratings include the season up to the Monaco GP, and the underlying algorithm has been tweaked to put more emphasis on current form than results in previous seasons. Along with the development teams, Formula 1 experts Anthony Davidson, David Croft and Alex Jacques have also been involved to try and distill the ability of each driver into a number, separate from what their cars might be capable of achieving.

Everyone will have their own opinions on the ratings, and it’s never going to be possible to make every driver or fan happy. But the good news is that the numbers will be dynamically updated throughout the season, so expect changes if new rules around porpoising shake things up, or Guanyu Zhou gets a maiden win.

The four individual categories are Experience (based on race starts), Racecraft (ability to work through the pack and finish in a higher position), Awareness (avoiding incidents and the Steward’s room), and Pace (Closest to the fastest qualifying and race lap times, and outpacing their teammate). And these are then combined into the overall figure.

As you might imagine, current F1 world champion Max Verstappen tops the overall scores with a 94 rating, but he shared that honour with Lewis Hamilton. Current championship rival Charles Leclerc is two points back, followed by George Russell and Lando Norris, with Perez just behind on 88.

At the bottom of the ratings list are Gunayu Zhou and Nicholas Latifi, who both end up with an overall rating of 70.

This compares to the current driver standings after both Azerbaijan and Canada, which have Verstappen leading Perez, Leclerc, Russell and Sainz, with Hamilton sixth in the standings, and both Mick Schumacher and Nicholas Latifi still yet to score a point this season.
