New F1 24 Gameplay Deep Dive Video Shows Physics Updates

Updates to tyres, suspension, aerodynamics and more are explained in a new F1 24 Gameplay Deep Dive Video.

Announced for release on May 31st, 2024, with early access from May 28th for those investing in pre-orders, there have been some big changes to the car physics. And it’s the result of working closely with Max Verstappen on the new EA Sports Dynamic Handling model.

There’s a new tyre temperature model which offers more variation across both the carcass and surface depending on factors including your driving style and ambient conditions, along with how the rubber is impacted by variable weather. This means you can now use wetter parts of the track to cool intermediate and wet tyres, and more realistic transitions between the different surfaces.

And this is combined with a new suspension kinematics system giving a more realistic feeling for weight distribution and the centre of gravity, along with revised spring and damper forces. So you get better feel of how the car handling changes under high and low downforce, and more options for setups.

The aerodynamics have also been revised with Computational Fluid Dynamics used to bring more detail, which can be felt when you’re in the slipstream, including the impact of driving in dirty air, and when you open the DRS. And there are more detailed chassis and floor profiles, increasing the the options when it comes to adjusting your ride height and rake settings.

The power unit also has new settings to allow you to request more horsepower as you increase acceleration, de-rate and use lift and coast to put more into the Energy Recovery System (ERS), and it allows you to swap between modes on the fly in every session of the race weekend, if you want to use a Hotlap or more aggresive Overtake mode during the race.

F1 2024 is listed for the PC at £59.99 for the Standard Edition or £79.99 for the Champions Edition on Steam, Epic Games Store and the EA App. For the PlayStation 4 and 5, it’s £69.99 for the Standard Edition on the PlayStation Store, or £89.99 for the Champions Edition on the PlayStation Store. And the same prices apply for the Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S with the Standard Edition and Champions Edition Microsoft Store listings. You can get a discount on all the console editions with EA Play membership.
