Antstream Arcade Adds PS1 Top-Down Racer Motor Mash

I haven’t tried the cloud-based retro games platform yet, but it may become an alternative to digging out my old consoles and computers as Antstream Arcade adds PS1 top-down racer Motor Mash to their collection. It’s part of the new list of PlayStation titles joining existing platforms including the Atari 7800, Megadrive, ZX Spectrum and Amiga.

Motor Mash is a top-down cartoon racer which was originally developed by Eutechnyx back in 1997 for the PlayStation and PC. The British developer is best known to sim racing fans for developing the official NASCAR games from 2011 until 2015, along with other games including Le Man 24 Hours, and both the 2006 The Fast and the Furious and Pimp My Ride games for the PS2 and Xbox 360 era consoles. Along with early PC online sim Auto Club Revolution.

In all honesty, a fairly minor overhead cartoon racer from the 1990s is unlikely to tempt you into the the service, which costs from £32.99 to £79.99 for a lifetime pass. But there are other racing games in the list of over 1300 retro titles, so it might be worth at least keeping an eye on if you don’t have all the original hardware and software claiming space in your house. Or my nostalgic attachment to original cartridges, disks and packaging. Plus they do offer a range of challenges and tournaments, although if you could filter by genre, it would be a lot easier to pick out all of the other racing titles on the service, including Top Gear 3000 and Top Racer for the SNES, MotorPsycho for the Atari 7800 and more.

If the Amiga selection expands to include Lotus 2 and 3, Jaguar XJ220, Stunt Car Racer and the licensed Days of Thunder game, for example, I’d certainly be more tempted. Just to make it very clear, I’d only be trying one of the worst Amiga racing games (Days of Thunder) for the memories of playing it all those years ago.

In any case, Antstream is available for the PC, consoles and mobile platforms via their website if you’re interested in taking a look. Motor Mash is also available from various places as a download, e.g. for the PC via Steam or GOG with Ocean Software listed as the developers. Or original PlayStation 1 versions can be found via eBay.
