F1 2020 My Team Mode Details and Video

June 16, 2020 By Dan Thornton Leave a Comment

Want to find out more about running your own Formula One outfit? Then check out the F1 2020 My Team mode details and video from Codemasters ahead of the game becoming available in July.

You’ll need to start by creating your own driver, the visual identity and a brand for your F1 2020 organisation. That includes deciding on your colour scheme, setting a team logo, and signing your first key sponsor.

If that’s not enough work away from the track, you’ll also need to sign a power unit supplier, and a second driver from the 2019 F2 grid to begin your journey to dominating F1. And you’ll need to unveil your car to the media, answering a series of questions which have an impact on the initial strength of your creation.

Once you’re up and running, you’ll need to deliver your own driving performance. But also manage your team each week, including setting staff activites, raising and allocating funds, and keeping the team motivated. For example, you could send a driver to fitness camp to boost their performance, but that means less time available for sponsors.

And you’ll be able to hire and fire team-mates on the driver market from F1 and F2. We’ve already mentioned the initial response to the driver rankings created by Codemasters, but it’s now confimed the scores will update based on their real-world performances throughout what’s left of the 2020 season.

Where’s that extra horsepower hiding?

“My Team is a feature that both the studio and our community have wanted for some time,” said Lee Mather, F1 Franchise Game Director at Codemasters. “My Team thrusts the player into the world of F1 with its unique driver-manager experience. We know our players are going to love this new feature.”

“It’s been an enlightening experience using real-world data to create the driver stats. They will divide opinion, and we know our players will spend hours debating them,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Franchise Director at Codemasters. “We’re excited to see how the stats evolve when the drivers hit the track, and the knock-on effect this will have in the game.”

From the screenshots, it appears that simulation race training will be part of the tasks you can allocate in the F1 2020 My Team mode. Presumably followed by debating the merits of triple screens over a curved monitor, defending the fact you’re not using VR to the media, and explaining the choice of Field of Vision so much that you forget to attend the next race.

In all seriousness, and avoiding the issue of your team-mate using bonnet cam for his sim training, you can keep up with our F1 2020 news and coverage here. Along with the F1 2020 car list including the special edition and classic F1 cars included.

Pre-order the Deluxe Schumacher Edition to get access to F1 2020 from July 7th, or the standard version to go racing from July 10th. You can pre-order from Game or Amazon. Or from Steam or the Microsoft Store.
