I really wanted to be excited about the Thrustmaster T128 Shifter Pack bundle launched with the TH8S H-pattern gearshift. I’ve bought both products (shifter for me, and wheel and pedals for my son), and manual shifting is one of the most cost effective improvements I’ve ever made for enjoyment and immerson.
And with the T128 providing one of the cheapest routes into wheels and pedals, it seemed like a no brainer to recommend it. The TH8S might feel a little plastic compared to higher end shifters, and doesn’t have any direct mounting options, but it’s stood up really well to a few months of use so far. Add in a copy of the original Assetto Corsa and you’ve got a pretty comprehensive sim experience for very little cash (especially after adding some free AC mods).
But there’s a slight issue, as the Thrustmaster T128 Shifter Pack costs £219.99. Which is usually a £10 reduction on the normal retail price of £169.99 for a T128 wheel and pedals, plus £59.99 for the TH8S Shifter Add-On.
Except that Thrustmaster themselves are currently setting the T128 wheel and pedals for a reduced £129.99. So by adding them separately to your basket, you’ll save £30.01 versus the new pack.
Plus the Thrustmaster T128 Shifter Pack is only available for the PC, Xbox Series S|X and Xbox One, despite the T128 also being available in a PlayStation version, and the TH8S also being PS4 and PS5 compatible through a Thrustmaster wheel base.
So when there’s not a sale on, or if the pack is reduced, I definitely recommend checking out the new Thrustmaster T128 Shifter Pack if you’re thinking about starting out with some casual sim racing, or trying to encourage someone else into the hobby. But right now, you should save yourself £30 and buy the T128 wheel and pedals, and the TH8S shifter separately.
It’s the second time this year that Thrustmaster have undermined a good idea with some odd pricing, considering their T128 SimTask Pack cost £10 more than buying both items separately.
